HEAT-RESISTANT GRAPHITES
Powder Metallurgy and Cermet Manufacturing
Mersen’s heavy-duty graphites for pressure sintering processes
Mersen graphites are widely used in pressure sintering processes to manufacture tooling for industrial diamond and hard metal cutting inserts as well as ceramic armor components for defense applications. Customers particularly value the excellent material properties of Mersen’s isostatic graphites under extreme high-temperature conditions.
Dynamic Sealing
Cost-effective and reliable sealing systems for fans, exhausters, turbo-compressors, dryers, and water turbines
Mersen’s TURBOGRAF sealing system is a labyrinth seal for rotary shafts in gas and steam applications. With proper selection, leakage can be reduced to near zero.
Isostatic Graphite Solutions for Continuous Casting

Thanks to their unique physical characteristics, Mersen’s isostatic graphites are ideal for use in continuous casting molds and crucibles:
-
Resistance to molten metal temperatures
-
High thermal conductivity
-
Low thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) for dimensional stability
Boostec® Silicon Carbide (SiC)

CALCARB® Rigid Carbon Insulation
High-performance insulation for high-temperature processes
CALCARB® provides superior insulation performance at high temperatures, making it ideal for customers focused on energy efficiency in manufacturing.
By selecting different grades and densities, thermal properties can be adapted to suit specific process requirements.
Carbon/Carbon Composite Parts for Hot Glass Handling
Mersen has decades of experience manufacturing deflector plates, transfer and pusher fingers, and deposition rods from Cerberite® CM20 and CM80 composite materials.
These unique grades, reinforced with a pyrolytic graphite matrix and third-direction reinforcement, provide exceptional oxidation resistance and significantly extended service life.
Compared to standard carbon/carbon composites, Cerberite® parts typically offer double the lifespan.
Cerberite® for the Hot Glass Industry
Mersen has decades of experience manufacturing deflector plates, transfer and pusher fingers, and placement rods from Cerberite® CM20 and CM80 composites. These unique materials, reinforced with a pyrolytic graphite matrix and third-direction reinforcement, differ from standard carbon fiber/carbon materials by offering exceptional oxidation resistance and a significantly longer service life—often twice as long as traditional carbon/carbon composites.
Carbon/Carbon (CFC) Composites for Vacuum Furnace Refurbishment
Standard-quality CFC products for vacuum furnace insulation linings, including plates, profiles, and fasteners, ensure high levels of protection against mechanical and chemical damage, thereby increasing insulation durability and service life.
CFC screws and nuts provide high mechanical strength, are resistant to thermal and mechanical stress, and do not deform—offering a longer lifespan compared to metal fasteners.
Carbon/Carbon (CFC) Composite Fixtures for Heat Treatment
Replacing metal with carbon/carbon composites in heat treatment fixtures enables:
-
Higher energy efficiency due to the very low thermal mass of the carbon composite—energy is focused on heating/cooling the parts, not the fixture
-
Faster heating and cooling cycles
-
Lower weight, making handling easier
-
No thermal deformation, ensuring a longer lifespan
-
No sticking of metal parts to the fixture surface
-
Improved productivity
CFC trays and baskets are used in heat treatment processes such as:
-
Vacuum brazing of automotive components
-
Heat softening
-
Low-pressure carburizing
-
Gas quenching
-
Case hardening of steel parts followed by oil quenching
